How Many Calories Burn Swimming?

Your metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories for energy. Your metabolism speeds up when you work out.

How much this affects you and how long it lasts depends on a number of things, like your gender, how your body is made up, and what you're doing.

Tom Holland says, "A 150-pound person will burn about 400 calories in an hour of moderate swimming and about 700 calories in an hour of vigorous swimming

When you swim faster and go farther, you burn more calories. The freestyle stroke,

which is the fastest, can help you burn the most calories. But that doesn't mean you should always choose freestyle when you go swimming.

How many calories you burn comes down to how long and how often you work out.

If you like breaststroke more than freestyle, you might be able to swim for longer. You may also be more consistent and burn more calories.

Holland says to stick to what you're most likely to want to do, and to change up your strokes to work as many muscles as possible and keep things interesting.

If you want to lose weight, you'll need to make a caloric deficit that gives you enough energy to get through your workouts.

Bring a snack to eat after your workout to keep you going until you can get to the kitchen.
