Most Americans eat Chick-fil-A regularly. With just 2,600 restaurants, it is a David amid Goliaths like McDonald's, Starbucks, and Subway.
Texas has the most Chick-fil-A restaurants (more than 450), yet some states have none. Alaska, Hawaii, and Vermont are the only states without fried chicken.
First Hawaii site opens September 1. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant in Kahului, Maui, will have a drive-thru.
This is the first of four sites planned for Hawaii between 2022 and 2023. Two restaurants in Honolulu and one in Kapolei will open on Oahu.
Chick-fil-A initially announced plans for Hawaii in 2018. "We're pleased to join the Aloha State and look forward to servicing new and existing fans," the firm said.
Hawaiians and their millions of yearly tourists may now enjoy fried chicken in a new style, but other states won't be joining in anytime soon.
Alaska and Vermont aren't on Chick-fil-expansion A's list. Many Vermonters reject the company's move. (Its limited population is another factor)
In Hawaii, Chick-fil-A faces the most fast-food competitors per capita in the US. OG chicken sandwich is hard to beat.
